On Wednesday evening we had the pleasure of attending a fabulous La Maison Cointreau Party celebrating the famous orange liqueur, and its history. Hosted at the Carondelet House, a beautiful '20s era historic property in Downtown L.A., the invite-only event temporarily transported the 300+ guests from Los Angeles to Cointreau's personal playhouse in d'Anjou, France.
The front room's bookshelves were filled with literature, but among them weren't just any old tomes. Rare, first-edition cocktail books dating from the mid-1800's, including among them Art of Mixing Drink by Jerry Thomas (1862) and Histoire Du Vieux Grognard (1897) were piled near one of four bars scattered throughout the space, where mixologists were shaking up some of the best sugar rimmed Side Cars. Next on our guided tour was a personal introduction by Alfred Cointreau himself, a sixth generation family member telling us about his personal experiences- including the trials and errors of mixing cocktails at the age of six!
After the personal introduction by Cointreau, we were whisked into the Cocktail Lab where Cointreau's Master Mixologist, Kyle Ford, gave us a lesson on how to mix the perfect drink! The Cocktail Lab was decorated impeccably, with a long wooden table covered in fresh exotic fruits, plants like basil and sage, and overflowing liquor surrounding a vintage chandelier centerpiece. Ford demonstrated how to create the perfect drink using ingredients like Cointreau, fresh strawberries, basil, lime, pineapples, cucumbers, lemon, and a splash of Perrier.
The decor was incredible- orange candles everywhere with flowers, and bottles of Cointreau. The night continued with a live performance in the back room which was decorated like a old 20's French theatre. The night was magical...like going back in time to Paris! This traveling event was designed with such detail. The entire interior will be traveling to various cities in Los Angeles.
Thank you to the genius creative minds behind this EXTRAEXTRA creative event!
