Do It Yourself: How to Style a Bookcase

A stylish bookcase is a necessity in every home- Not only is a bookcase a source of storage where you store your books, magazines, and binders- but a bookcase is a way to reflect your personal style . If you don't have one, you need to buy one now and start styling it! If you already own a bookcase, here are some tips on how to make it fabulously chic:
  1. Start with books- Include both hardcover or softcover books. Try to keep them separated- place hardcover books next to other hardcover books, and soft cover with soft cover books.
  2. Place books next to other similar-sized books.
  3. Mix them up by having some vertical and others horizontal. Layer them on top of each other and in different ways on the various shelves.
  4.  Leave space on each shelf for accessories- You don't need to fill each shelf with books! In fact, try to leave ample space on each shelf for decor.
  5. Alternate placement of accessories- For example, if you place an accessory in the middle of the top shelf, try to place accessories on the right or left side of lower level shelves to maintain symmetry.
  6. Add the accessories-  As seen below, accessories can be placed in front of the books, on top of the books, and/or in between the books.
  7. Finish with the details. Add vases/ tchtotkes/ picture frames/candles and art to make your bookcase unique and personal!
